This module aims to develop an appreciation of the concepts of leisure, recreation and play, and the factors influencing patterns of participation. It will provide an assessment of the structure and nature of leisure provision (at national and local level) across the public, private and voluntary sectors, and relate leisure provision to an understanding of needs and demands. The resource requirements of different activities and pastimes will be established and the implications for design investigated. Site assessment for recreational use will be considered, as will the environmental impacts of leisure, including different types of conflict which may arise.
